Grief Box
A downloadable game
What do we do with the constant grief we hold?
Where does it go?
How do we carry on with parts of ourselves in people and places that are gone?
What is Grief Box?
Grief Box is a table-top roleplaying game for 1-6 players (solo and multiplayer options available) about loss and grieving something/someone/a place/a relationship that is no longer there.
You can play as yourself, roll a character identity and scenario from a table of options, use an existing character of yours, or come up with an identity on the fly.
What You Need To Play
- A medium-size box with a lid that can be shut
- A deck of standard playing cards (with the Jokers removed)
- An object that you will give up
- A journal (audio logs, sketches, writing, etc.) to record your story
- A tumbling block tower (such as Jenga) (optional)
- 1-3 hours of your time (and all the little moments where grief sneaks in)
- 1-6 players
- A willingness to dive into the things unsaid
Content Warnings
This game deals with death, loss, complex interpersonal relationships, heavy emotional burden of the self and, if multi-player, other people at the table. Safety tools are paramount for this experience. You decide what story to tell and how strongly it deals with things you've lost. If you are sensitive to these themes, please look after your mental health and make sure you have someone trustworthy to talk to. Stop playing if you feel overwhelmed.
